Decision Against Schilling Overdue County Fees
The Supreme Court affirmed a judgment against William E. Schilling ex county recorder of Marion county for 2000 in favor of the county. He collected 2087.25 in fees between November 184 and June 1896, more than his salary, but his bond was 2900, limiting recovery. The court rejected his challenge to the fee law as unconstitutional. Anna C Van Pelt was granted divorce from John H Van Pelt with alimony and furniture. Her complaint cited cruel treatment and attempts to extract money. The widow Ridpath settled a Knights of Honor policy dispute. The will of Elfen Foss leaves life estate to Justice Foss with remainder to children. Other remarks note weight of conflicting evidence by the judges.
