Leeds Seen as Likely Rock Island Chief at January Meeting
A report suggests W B Leeds will be elected president of the Chicago Rock Island & Pacific at the January annual meeting. Leeds began on the Panhandle lines in 1883, climbed to assistant engineer on the Pennsylvanian system, and later headed the Richmond division before amassing wealth through the Elwood tin works and a stake in the Chicago Rock Island. A Moore brother partner and Leeds reportedly own a majority of the carrier.

Believer in Names urges historic school titles in Indianapolis
A reader from Indianapolis argues for naming public schools after scholars and civic leaders rather than numerals. He cites McCoy, Douglass, Garfield, Hyde, McCulloch, Catherine Merrill, Lowell, Harrison, and national figures Washington, Lincoln, and Jefferson, urging names that honor scholarship and citizenship. He suggests Caleb Mills as a preferred alternative where possible.

Suit Over Fees Held by County Treasurer Officials
Judge Allen heard amended complaints by Romus F. Stuart against Sterling R. Holt and William H. Schmidt regarding fees retained while in county treasurer roles. The amended pleadings name the Board of Commissioners and county auditor for alleged nonaction on salt. P W Bartholomew argued Stuart, as taxpayer, holds rights like a stockholder to sue when the entity refuses. The defense cited authorities opposing the theory. Ruling on advisement.
