Severe storms sweep the South with Evansville bathed in wreckage. Telegraph and telephone lines fall, boats sink, and a building is wrecked. New Orleans and Clayton suffer injuries and potential fatalities while Chicago reports a 52 mph wind with widespread damage. Weather forecasters warn of continued gales and cold turns.
A severe southern Indiana and Illinois storm hit Evansville about 3 PM, tearing down buildings and wrecking wires. The Evansville Gas Company lost 30000 on a new building, Sanitary Pottery 6000, and several other structures were damaged. Wind reached 54 miles per hour with no fatalities reported, while rivermen estimate several thousand dollars in losses.
A severe wind storm hit western New Orleans suburbs before daylight tearing down the Denier family home. Prof John Denier suffered head injuries, a broken nose and possible spinal trauma, and is unconscious. Mrs Denier has a serious head wound and a broken left arm. Mrs Fontich incurred minor injuries, while Viola Denier escaped unharmed. The wooden marsh house stood on piles near City Park. Denier, a noted circus performer, is brother to Tony Denter. Telegraph lines and trees suffered damage. A second report notes a destructive wind in northern Mississippi and western Tennessee around noon.
A severe wind and rain storm swept parts of Alabama near Clayton and Pratts Station damaging telegraph lines and homes. Memphis harbor voices report damaged boats and destroyed smokestacks. Farther north, Fulton Arkansas reports 40 percent cotton loss and 20 percent livestock reduction as Red River falls. Wisconsin sees heavy winds and telegraph outages, while Omaha notes rain turning to snow paralysing lines and delaying rail traffic.
Pennsylvania and New York announce support for Illinoisman James Cannon as speaker in the Fifty eighth Congress after Representative Dalzell withdraws his candidacy at a Willard Hotel dinner. Delegation members praise Dalzell before unanimously endorsing Cannon and appoint a committee to inform him. New York ends with backing Cannon and Lyons for door keeper.
In a snowbound rescue off Mamaise point a lost steamer Hebard crew was saved Sunday morning. First Mate Burrell and Second Mate Jackson rode a frail skiff through breaking seas to shore. Oscar Carleson and his sons aided by securing the line and guiding crew members to safety.
Washington December 2 The Indiana district judgeship remains unsettled with no announced candidate. Indiana lawmakers press for action as recess appointments include eight Indiana postmasters. Holliday opposes tariff plans, urges Ways and Means to act during recess. Postoffice notices include annual dead letter sale and new presidential appointments.
Philadelphia reports in the Hassett case that Barry Johnstone, an actor once with Richard Mansfield, shot Miss Hassett and then wounded himself. A premeditated murder theory is supported by a found note and a planned escape rope.
In Richmond on December 2, Dr. R. B. Ware introduced a House of Delegates bill to make promiscuous kissing a misdemeanor. The act would prohibit kissing unless a person can prove via a family physician they lack contagious disease. Violators face fines between one dollar and an unspecified upper limit.
Chicago reports four railroad brotherhoods representing engineers firemen trainmen and conductors meet to demand 10 to 20 percent pay raises for about 170000 workers across Middle and Northwest lines. One month for railroads to respond. St Louis conference to follow if rejected.
London papers view Roosevelt as cautious on trust and tariff issues yet largely refrain from harsh criticism. They note his appeal to attract Congress support and praise his foreign policy tone and strong navy while calling the message tranquilizing and high in idealistic language.

Firms include Albion Malleable Iron Company, Marion Malleable Ironworks, Michigan Malleable Iron Company, Northwestern Malleable Iron, Pittsburg Iron, Trenton Malleable Iron, and others. Financial HQ in New York with operating HQ in Chicago. W C McMillan states no cash outlay or stock watering and notes some US Steel interest but asserts no trust sale. The merger aims to rival National Amalgamated in scale and management remains unchanged.
