A sixteen year old clerk bravely fired on a band of marauders in the West Ville bank of LaPorte County and was killed. One robber was wounded as the band escaped with a stolen rig and later abandoned it. A large reward is offered for the capture of the raiders as angry citizens scour the countryside in search of vengeance.
Special to the Indianapolis Journal reports Westville La Porte County Indiana. A bank and clothing store clerk Westly Reynolds sixteen sleeping in the bank was shot and killed during a desperate attack by robbers. More than twenty shots exchanged as the thieves fled with a stolen horse and buggy. The town braces for possible lynching as a reward is offered and the pursuit continues.
In Elkhart Indiana Arthur Lynert eight and Charles Lynert nine died after lighting a stove with gasoline while their parents slept. Their flannel nightshirts caught fire and their cries brought their father, who was badly burned attempting to rescue them.
Boston exports of cattle on the hoof halted as foot and mouth disease prompts a nationwide stamp out effort. The steamer Sylvania sails to Liverpool with a drove deemed sound. Immediate inspections by Dr. Salmon and aides, plus a state cattle bureau review, are planned. quarantines and slaughter of already shipped cattle likely.

She married racehorse owner Robert Hemingway in Chicago. Her parents Prof and Mrs T F Campigno reside here. the family long connected with Pauls Church. She was eighteen.
