London reports circulate that British terms may have been accepted by the Boers, though no official confirmation exists. A confidential conference at Klerksdorp included Steyn Heltz Schaikburger Meyer Botha Delarey and De Wet among others.
A Pretoria dispatch says Boer leaders have accepted British terms and peace is arranged. Reports note the telegrams were sent to Boer agents in Europe and may involve Steyn, De Wet, and Botha. Unconfirmed London notices add that Harris may have received similar news.
A Pretoria dispatch reports Steyn Reitz Schalkburger and Lucas Meyer with Gen Botha en route to a Klerksdorp conference to discuss British peace terms. The Times notes Schalkburger and others arrived April 6 and invites De larey and Steyn. safe conducts extended for ongoing negotiations.

Maj M J Moore heads ten officers and says Britain acts like any citizen here.

W W Klemt a traveling salesman for a Louisville wholesale house attempted suicide by leaping eighty feet from the Kentucky and Indiana bridge into the Ohio river. He was rescued by fishermen, unconscious and badly injured though alive. He is a married man with five children and no cause is known.
Swiss Italian diplomatic ties have been severed after Switzerland refused to prosecute an anarchist Geneva article insulting the murdered King Humbert. Italy demanded action, but Switzerland required a formal complaint from Rome, then cut relations. Italy likewise broke off its envoy in Bern. A State Department cable confirms the severance.
Alberto Santos-Dumont, builder and navigator of airships, arrived in New York aboard the Deutschland to discuss aerial navigation exhibitions with the St. Louis exposition managers. He plans a three week stay, may race or exhibit later, and ships airship No. 7 for this summer. He lauds Langley and believes New York could become the world’s principal aerial port.
In Frankfort on April 10, the Franklin Circuit Court heard a criminal case against Edward Donevan for maliciously shooting Richard Kirk. To illustrate the bullet’s path, Commonwealth Attorney Franklin Kirk staged an operation to locate and remove the bullet lodged in Kirk’s back.

Rioters charge with bayonets, fire revolvers, and tear down rails while women and children are wounded and housed at Maison du Pepule. In Brussels on April 10 police and mounted gendarmes with sabers dispersed rioters after a morning of clashes. A policeman was shot in the face and body, beaten, and left bleeding. Socialists sacked a cafe, fired it, and rioters fought police at Northern Railway station. civic guards were put on duty and local mayors prohibited gatherings.
Anthony M. Kiely resigns after sixteen years on the international tribunal in Egypt. George S. Batcheller urged for the vacant Court of Appeals seat. Kiely cites wife’s death and loneliness, plans travel to London. Kiely, a New Jersey native, previously served as envoy to Italy and Vienna under Cleveland, with Austria once declaring him persona non grata. The resignation follows long service and political tensions within his career.
Courtland Van Camp returns from New York to confirm a national consolidation among leading hardware jobbers. Ellen M Stone, rescued missionary from Bulgaria, reached New York on the Deutschland. She said captors insulted her and Mme Tsilka but did not strike them. a baby born to Mrs Tsilka changed their behavior. Stone noted released negotiations faltered and threats of death followed. She planned to visit her elderly mother in Chelsea, Massachusetts.
At Everett Washington on April 10 Mrs Shepard R Bucey wife of the American National Bank assistant cashier shot and killed her husband son and herself in a parlor murder suicide. Neighbors found Mrs Bucey with a revolver and Eugene dead beside her. Mr Bucey lay in the dining room with two bullet holes behind his left ear.
Telegraphic dispatch reports a major blaze sweeping the business section of Sycamore Illinois, with the fire described as beyond control at the time the message was sent.
The April session of the state prison inquiry in Michigan City opened with Dr. Brose S. Horne refusing to accept the board’s procedure and demanding an attorney and the right to cross examine. The board, insisting the physician was a witness, adjourned to 1 pm and later placed Horne in custody to compel attendance as Deputy Sheriff Schultz escorted him to the hearing. Governor Durbin presided as twenty charges against Deputy Warden Barnard and other officials were read, with Barnard and Burton pleading not guilty to listed offenses.
