Snake and His Band Sentenced to Fort Leavenworth

A court sentenced the group led by Ary Snake to two years in Fort Leavenworth. The ruling followed a federal case alleging band activity linked to organized crime and associated charges. Authorities said the defendants planned further illicit operations before their arrest.

The Souke Indiana band led by Crargenake faced two year terms in Fort Leavenworth per Judge Raymond after a recent outbreak and suspended paroles. Oklahoma Statehood Bill Moves Through Subcommittees

Subcommittees on the Oklahoma statehood bill chaired by Movers Flynn Powers and Moon completed work and will report to the full committee tomorrow. The Flynn bill passed with few changes and retains the provision to add Indian territory either in part or as a whole. Delegates to the Flynn proposal secured two seats in Congress after an attempt for three failed.

Oklahoma Statehood Outlook From Washington Visit

A. J. Bray reports optimism that Flynn’s bill will pass the house this session and possibly the senate before adjournment. Bray notes Flynn’s refusal to let his name be used and praises his work despite criticism while urging immediate statehood for Oklahoma separate from Indian Territory.

Generous townspeople of Kinni son contribute to relief for suffering fullbloods. A $35.50 check arrives at the Chieftein office from Geo W Siegel as part of a subscription drive sparked by the Chieftain column. PB Kinnicon and others circulated the appeal, with many locals quick to donate.

Dawes Commission Rejections in Cherokee Enrollment Cases

Special report from Muskogee dated March 1 1902 lists numerous Cherokees denied enrollment after review by the Dawes Commission. The decisions as of February 14 1902 forward the names to the Interior Secretary for approval.

Moon's Measure for Territorial Government Favored by Committee

A House committee on territories unanimously recommends Moon's bill creating a territorial government for Jefferson with a governor, secretary, a bicameral legislature, and four senatorial districts. Legislature salaries are four dollars per day plus ten cents per mile. Regular sessions begin January 1908 in South McAlester with biennial appropriations. passage likely blocks statehood plans.
