Cherokee council adjourns then reels in extra session actions
Tahlequah reports a protracted Cherokee nation session with multiple bills passed including appropriations for Hutchings West and local sheriff expenses. The $4 300 000 claims were rejected and a push to fund education and orphan asylum was approved, as political corruption accusations color the day.

Congregationalists plan foreign missionary society formation
The Congregational church ladies plan to form a foreign missionary society after the new year. The annual church meeting, to be held the last Friday of the year, will elect trustees and clear pending business. The church now owns its downtown property free of encumbrance and may sell it to buy a new lot and build farther out. A pastor may be engaged and services resume next year.
