It describes entrenched private gain by a few, intimidation of witnesses, lack of justice, and calls for immediate U S government action including territorial government and expanded federal court jurisdiction to secure rights and property for all citizens.
A letter from John Chaney to Charles Brownell, attorney for the Shawnees, denies claims that the writer requested fees to secure the Shawnees’ funds. The correspondence clarifies that no such statements were made and asserts no fees will be taken beyond those agreed with the Shawnees’ counsel.
