Jas A G Hays announces candidacy for Judge of the 23rd Kansas Judicial District, subject to Alican Convention decision. Dated February 1, 1902. Genealogy notes indicate his intention to seek office under the convention process.
The Republican committee of the 23d district met at Ellis and set an April 15 convention with 22 votes, listing candidates for judge Jas H Reeder and Harry Pestana among attendees. Local updates cover improvements, Masonic events, horse buyers, land leases, county finances, township assessors meeting, homestead notes, and ongoing court cases in March and April.

Esquire Charles Miller, once a belt maker, married Miss Annielin Grabbe of Catharine at a church ceremony planned for Lent. The event drew witnesses as Miller wore formal dress and carried an Episcopal prayer book. A humorous note included a joke about meals and a range.
