Captain A R Craver and wife visited Hays reviewing the Fort Hays Kansas Normal School and Sheridan Coliseum. He recommended establishing an Army Officers Training Camp at the school, noting a voluntary program distinct from the S A T C draft system. Papers sent to the War Department for approval. William J Bryan praised for foresight on Wilson quote about 1912.
Mrs. Lincoln Ward leaves for Kansas City while Miss Pestana awaits Miss Lids Fowler. Army casualty list includes Peter C. Leikam wounded severely. Several faculty and locals travel for holidays. weddings, visits, and hospital care described amid winter roads and festive gatherings.
Obituary notices recall Andrew Earlenbaugh born 1845 in Blair County Pennsylvania who homesteaded near Hays in 1878 and died December 23 1918 aged 73. His Civil War service and family survivors are listed along with a note on a holdup from illness and funeral by Rev. Seawalker. Also mentions Beardwell family bereavements in WaKeeney with deaths of Mrs Beardwell and two children from poisoning and a later social event notes watch night program at the Metric Ladies society with coffee.
