Thanksgiving notices recount numerous dinners hosted by local families and visiting relatives from Camp Funston, Ellis, Lyons, and Hays. Events include school and community activities, football games, and a Strand Theatre showing, with soldiers and residents sharing meals, stories, and town pride amid wartime mobilization.
The notice lists several ladies including Mrs. Stewart, Mrs. Penmep, Mrs. Geo. Philip, and Genevieve Dor ney among others who sewed for the Red Cross in the evening sessions. Additional names appear for Thursday and Friday groups with Mesdames and Misses contributing.
Karl Frederick Guenther born June 1 1840 in Katharinestadt Russian was the son of Mr and Mrs Hermann Guenther. He married Dorothea Sabelfeld and they had ten children, four sons and six daughters. His wife died in April 1901. He moved to America in 1904 and died at his daughter's home on November 21 at noon at age 77 years five months and twenty days, leaving one son Alexander in Canada.
