The Ellis County Teachers Institute wraps up its thirtieth session calling it the most successful yet with all abroad lecturers appearing as scheduled. Alonzo M. Stacy born May 23 1832 in Rutland Vermont died August 18 at his Plainville home. An Ellis County veteran and Hays City figure, he was interred Tuesday after a Lutheran church funeral led by Rev. Brown. He married Jessie Bedfield October 15 1859. no children survived.
Hugh Braly quit his job at the Elevator on Wednesday after about two years as its wheat buyer. He is likely headed to Kansas City for new work. Friends regret the departure of Hough and Braly from the local staff.
M Rand, who purchased all the horses at the recent sale, is slated to return Friday August 20. Bring in the horses early, and Rand will buy them.
A Wheeling correspondent reports giant hats and a rat infestation in local mills. Rats raid food scraps, open containers, and even haul items like a tin pan and a dinner basket, provoking worker anger as the bold rodents continue to plunder.

Miss Maggie Cave visited friends at McCracken and Rush Center this week. W. E. Saum traveled from Kansas City Tuesday to attend a sheriff’s sale. Peter Frank returned from Lawrence Monday to help his family run the Windsor Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Wann came back from Chicago this week with a full line of goods. Miss Georgia Virmond left Monday for Ellsworth to take the assistant principal position at the High School.
