Extended outlook reports Thursday mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 70s and northeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Thursday night is partly cloudy with lows in the mid 50s followed by Friday highs around 80 and a Friday night 20 percent chance of thunderstorms with lows in the lower 50s.
Salina City Commission approved a yearlong curbside recycling pilot starting March 1 with 1,000 volunteer households. The three party partnership includes volunteers, the city, and Images Recycling Center which will process materials. A $130,000 recycling truck will be purchased and run by one employee.
Kansas State Fair board approves a fiscal year 2005 budget totaling 3,689,877.90 with a $1 gate admission increase to 7 for adults and seniors and 5 for children. The plan adds 200,000 in admissions revenue and includes a 300,000 transfer to the capital improvement fund, though state matching funds are uncertain.
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius appointed John Bottenberg and Tom Tunnell of Topeka to three year terms on the Kansas State Fair board. Bottenberg replaces Kent Oleen and represents ethanol and pork interests with a lobbying firm and farmland. Tunnell, president of the Kansas Grain and Feed Association since 1980, replaces Bob Barker and serves on The Fertilizer Institute board.
