Fireworks shows set for Saturday across multiple towns including Wakeeney Ness City Colby Goodland Hays Hill City Hoxie Lake Atwood Norton Oberlin Oakley Russell Sharon Springs Smith Center and Smith County Fair. Times vary from dusk to 10:15 PM at fairgrounds and parks.
On Thursday the Hays Police Department logged ten animal calls and five traffic stops plus several incidents: motor vehicle accidents at 400 block West 19th 27th and Vine 2500 block Ash Plum and 27th Vine Sixth and Milner 3600 block Vine 700 block West 12th and private property 3600 block Vine and 200 block East Sev enth Burglary 300 block West 12th computer crime 400 block East fifth criminal damage to property 400 block East Sixth and a crowd dispersal at 200 block West 10th.
Special tour starts 7 30 pm with 7 dollar admission north of Hays. Safe Ride offered 10 pm to 3 am on Wed Fri Sat. Gates open 4 pm at Hays Municipal Park for Wild West Festival featuring Kids Karaoke 5 30 pm, Alternative Strings 6 45 pm, Trip Fire 8 pm, Billy Carrington 9 30 pm. Farmer's Market 8 11 30 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary church lot.
The Friends of Hays Public Library host a Wild West Festival Book Sale from 10 am to 4 pm at Library Gallery with bag prices five, four, and three dollars for the first, second, and subsequent bags. A 10 pm to 3 am drinking note appears, gates open at 4 pm. The day’s lineup includes Adult Karaoke at 5 pm, Fourstar at 6:30 pm, Steve Azar at 8 pm, and Western Underground at 9:30 pm.

The 12th annual Kids Fun Day runs 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Municipal Park with free admission. Highlights include Wolf's Educational Barnyard Petting Zoo, Moonwalks for Fun inflatables, Blue Sky Farms miniature show horses, HHS cheerleaders, parades, tricks by Joan Wells, a fishing tournament, and Eagle Radio pedal pull for kids 4 to 12. Families can ride cart horses, view animals, and enjoy games, face painting, and concessions.
The blotter lists numerous incidents including DUI at East Eighth and 1700 East 13th, liquor offenses on Vine, fireworks violations at 19th Elm and 1700 block Deciant, and harassment cases on Indian Trail and Englewood. A motor vehicle crash with injuries occurred at Vine and Centennial involving three units, with three units also noted for public service at Centennial and Vine.
