Fort Hays State University libraries reveal July weekend hours with partial closures July 4 and 5, plus July 6 opening 1 pm to 6 pm. City events include an art walk, Hays Summer Band concert at 7:30 pm, and Gamma Eto ESA ice cream sales. Kansas sheriffs plan to continue Brady Bill background checks on handgun buyers, despite the Supreme Court ruling that checks are not mandatory. Undersheriff Ken Angell says his department runs about 50 weekly checks with about 10% denied due to felonies or other disqualifications. Other sheriffs across the state echo differing plans as the court disputes the federal program’s enforceability.
