About 2,000 people crowded Main Street as the Great Race rolled into Hays. Shops extended hours with many racers inside and spectators cheering along the sidewalk. Hays city commissioners rejected five costly research bids totaling up to 50 000 for a Home Depot impact study. They will use city staff with modest aid from the Ellis County Coalition for Economic Development and Kansas League of Municipalities software worth about 100 to tackle the cost benefit analysis.
Fort Hays State University faces an 8.9 percent rise in tuition for a 15 hour student, lifting per credit to 1107 dollars as part of a 39 million state board of regents package affecting six public universities. Additional fees could boost total cost by about 14 percent next year.
