John Lee Hooker, legendary blues singer and guitarist, died at his Los Altos home at age 83 of natural causes. Born in 1917 in Clarksdale Mississippi, he inspired countless artists and recorded more than 100 albums with hits like Boogie Chillen. He influenced Rolling Stones Bruce Springsteen Clapton and Dylan among others and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.

Carroll O Connor famed as Archie Bunker in All in the Family died of a heart attack at 76 in Culver City California. Publicists said he collapsed at home and was pronounced dead after hospital admission with wife Nancy at his side. He previously faced diabetes complications and bypass surgery, leaving a long career in stage film and television with a legacy tied to Archie yet described as stubborn for the right causes by Rob Reiner.
