Area veterans honored at Abilene ceremony
Nearly 150 Kansas Normandy Invasion veterans were honored at Memorial Day events at the Eisenhower Center in Abilene. U S Rep Jerry Moran and other officials issued participation certificates and two pins from the Defense Department. The list names veterans from Norton to Hays, with many accepted by spouses or relatives.

Ellis County Rodeo Queen and Princess Contest Set for July 7
The second annual Ellis County Rodeo Queen and Princess Contest will be held at 4 p.m. July 7 at the Ellis County Fairgrounds. Queen contestants are ages 14 to 18, princess contestants ages 7 to 11. Entries must be pre entered by July 1, with no exceptions. Contact Norleen Knoll at 625 2401 or 625 5916 for forms and information. The event includes horsemanship, personal interview, public speaking and modeling, with the winner helping at fair events and crowning her successor the following year. The day also features a Free Wild West Family Walk with 1 and 3 mile options, starting 8:30 a.m. July 4, at the Army Reserve Center, 101 Main, tied to the Wild West Festival parade. First 100 registrants get T shirts. refreshments and prizes follow.
