Senator Pat Roberts spoke via live satellite to 107 girls at Kansas State University urging girls to pursue math and science. The Girls Researching Our World workshop, funded by NSF, features engineers from Boeing and a Topeka High team building a solar powered racing bike, aiming to attract girls to science and tech careers.
Ellsworth plans a Drovers Hall of Fame to honor the cattle drovers era from 1867 to 1885. The city and county are designated Drovers Capital of Kansas with a museum planned in the former Powers Bank building. Officials seek Texas and Oklahoma families to recover histories for a lasting Ellsworth cattle heritage.
Ellsworth County moves the 1873 limestone jail toward preservation with steel reinforcement to stabilize crumbling walls. The effort by the Ellsworth County Historical Society accompanies a 24,000 grant for Fort Harker Officer's Quarters renovations and a 6,000 county match, tying to Ellsworth Plaza District walking tours and local economic development.
