The Kansas State Board of Education unanimously rejected federal guidelines on transgender student rights, arguing Kansas schools already address safety and inclusion. Board chair Jim McNiece and member Ken Willard defended local control, while Stephanie Mott of Kansas Statewide Transgender Education Project countered that most schools aren’t in compliance and that protections should cover all students.
