Weather Outlook for Kansas Friday and Friday Night

Friday across Kansas is partly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms and highs in the lower 80s. Southeast winds 5 to 15 mph become northeast 10 to 20 mph as Friday progresses. Friday night remains mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of storms and lows in the lower 60s.

Thursday community events in Hays and Colby area

Downtown Hays hosts open house and public meeting on a master streetscape plan from 6:30 to 8 pm at the Hays Arts Council. Other items include Northwest Kansas Community Corrections board meeting at 4 pm, a health cooking demo at 7 pm, and a city commission session at 7:30 pm. Universities Set SARS Policy For Incoming Students

Kansas state universities began monitoring arrivals from five SARS affected regions including mainland China, Toronto, Singapore, Hong Kong, Hanoi, Vietnam, and Taiwan. Students must log temperatures daily for 10 days and report to the health center if ill. Fort Hays State University paused China travel plans but aims to resume once the outbreak cools.

Share a Story summer reading program partners with libraries

Smoky Hills Public Television teams with public libraries to run the Share a Story summer reading project for children ages 2 to 7 in Hays Osborne Alton Stockton Goodland Phillipsburg and Russell this month and in July. SHPTV Educational Services staff present clips from Arthur Caillou and Clifford the Big Red Dog along with related books and activities. Victoria girls summer basketball fund-raisers and rodeo pageant

The Victoria girls summer basketball team will host an all-you-can-eat Father's Day breakfast Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Victoria Grade School cafeteria with adults 4, ages 6 to 12 3, under 6 free. Krispy Kreme doughnuts will be sold from 6 a.m. at Cervs and Wolf Furniture for six dollars a dozen.
