Gov. Sam Brownback announced a June 23 start for a special session with a tight one week window to pass school finance legislation. He proposed boosting education funding by 38 million dollars and indicated corresponding cuts to other programs, likely affecting higher education or Medicaid, to satisfy a Kansas Supreme Court ruling. Committees will begin meeting next week to craft a plan ahead of the June 30 deadline.
The Kansas State University Agricultural Research Center in Hays hosted a third year pumpkin planting project with the summer gardening program from Hays Public Library.
