Fun in the Sun Fashion Fair at Brond Salon

Brond Salon and Day Spa hosts a Sunday event at 4333 Vine east of Wal-Mart with a 2 p.m. children fashion show and 3 to 6 p.m. fun fair to raise funds for Hays Area Children's Center infant toddler early intervention services. Free activities include police and fire demonstrations and a Kansas Highway Patrol vehicle for kids. Local businesses Bride's World and Wal-Mart provide fashion show clothing across multiple categories.

Free child screenings set for June 16 at center

Hays Interagency Coordinating Council sponsors free screenings for children from Ellis and Rush Counties on June 16 at the Hays Area Children's Center. Defense opens at Nichols penalty phase in Oklahoma

Defense attorneys presented nine witnesses led by Nichols family members and former wives as they describe Nichols's childhood and his relationship with his children to argue against the death penalty. Jurors will decide between life in prison or death after testimony concludes today. Nichols, 49, already serves a life sentence on federal convictions for eight agent deaths in the bombing.
