Lawmakers end the 2016 session without action as a court deadline looms for Proposition funding reallocation. The rift with the state Supreme Court deepens amid threats to defy the justices and calls for a special session under Gov. Sam Brownback to address inequities in school funding.

FHSU seeks 125000 this year up from 100000, to fund 56 new freshmen awards and 27 continuing awards, under a program boosted by enrollment growth and state funding cuts.
Kansas Farm Management Association data show 2015 net farm incomes in the 17 county Northwest district at minus 2,971 dollars, a sharp drop from 2014 and part of a wider statewide slide as lower grain prices and slightly higher yields reduce earnings. County figures vary, with Cheyenne at 10,431 and Sherman at 46,750, while Thomas and several other counties report losses.
