Former Fort Hays State University player and current coach Chris Brown was honored as he joined the MIAA Hall of Fame. The induction recognizes Brown’s stellar college career and lasting impact on Tiger athletics.
Kansas Senior Judge William Lyle Jr ruled that a codicil favoring Wanda Oborny to a nearly 21 million dollar estate is invalid. The decision preserves the Fort Hays State University Foundation and other beneficiaries from the late Earl O Field’s will. Field died February 19 2013 at age 98 and had no children. Oborny had worked for Field since 2008 and received substantial lifetime gifts.
Max Maximov, a Hays Sister City Committee board member, visited Santa Maria Paraguay in August to assess interest in renewing the long dormant partnership. The 1975 linkage, halted since 2001, saw a warm reception and unclear current status as he sought to gauge mutual intent for ongoing collaboration.
Kansas lawmakers ended the regular session without a decision on the Supreme Court ruling that the school funding formula is unconstitutional. Republicans debated options from $40 million in added funds to defiance, but division and late meetings with Gov Brownback left no action before sine die.
