Future teachers at Fort Hays State University may receive a James Madison Fellowship worth 24000 dollars. The federally endowed James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation funds the program to strengthen instruction about the U.S. Constitution in U.S. schools.
About 200 demonstrators refused to disperse and police used pepper spray as arrests followed in Seattle marking last year’s WTO protests. One officer was injured, 140 people were taken into custody including AP reporter Gene Johnson. Five held on felony charges, ten juveniles among those arrested.

Also Western Plains Arts presents Mike Bishop and Sweet N Sassy at Goodland High School 3 p.m. admission 10 adults 5 students. City light-up at City Hall 6 p.m. Storytime snakes at Sternberg 4 p.m. for ages 4 to 8. St Francis Academy hosts holiday stress talk 6:30 p.m. free, reservations preferred.
Colby Community College Department of Music presents the annual Winter Concert at 7 30 pm in Frahm Theatre at the Northwest Kansas Cultural Arts Center. Admission is free.
