Four Victims Of Deadly Gun At Beck Home Tragedy

Four people were wounded in a fatal shooting at the Beck home on North Hall Street. Clarence Walker, 26, was killed after a confrontation over a pending marriage to Helen Beck, 19. Chief W P Brown and Mrs Sophia Beck were injured, and Helen Beck remained hospitalized with lung injuries. Walker was later killed, and a funeral was held for him while Helen Beck’s condition improved.

Governor Signs Bridge Bill For Free Toll Lewiston Clarkston

Governor Haines signed a bill appropriating 40000 for the state to buy a half interest in the Lewiston Clarks ton toll bridge. Once Congress approves the plan, the bridge will become free. Washington state acted similarly, with hopes a free passage opening in June. Rice Creek road vetoed a 4000 appropriation for four miles of road to connect with the Joseph road. veto cited use of public funds for local needs.

In Lewis county last fall Nez Perce was declared county seat after Judge Steele ruled the election valid on Wednesday. An appeal option was noted. A delegation viewed the High Line route last Wednesday and met with Grangeville leaders. The group included E. C. Blanchard, fourth vice president of the mouth on Maeite saul line, Tacoma address noted.

Splendid Home Destroyed Overnight in Town Fire

A large fire at eight o'clock Tuesday evening destroyed the W. H. Casady residence on a southern town eminence. Fire equipment moved slowly due to a frozen hydrant. all efforts failed to save the house. Occupant Joseph McDonald and family lost a well furnished home including a $600 Chickering piano. Insurance totaled $1,350 against an estimated value of $4,000. Origin undetermined. Mrs. McDonald was en route downtown when the fire started. No lives reported.

City election set for April 1 in Grangeville

Grangeville voters must register for the city election on April 1. Registrars named for three wards will be at designated locations on the next three Saturdays to register voters from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Ward 1 at East Main fire station with registrar Adide Lanningham. Ward 2 at Vansise carpenter shop near Odd Fellows Opera House with registrar W G Brown. Ward 3 at courthouse with registrar Joseph Sorrow.
