Revenue and Funding of Idaho Fish and Game Bureau in 1919

The Legislature lacks provisions for maintenance of the Fish and Game Bureau. Revenue came from sale of licenses and permits, fines, confiscations, and miscellaneous sources. In 1919 net income reached about $120,500.48, with $11,108.98 from non-license sources. resident license prices rose while nonresident prices fell, affecting revenue comparisons with 1918. Heyburn Park revenues dropped from $20,825.37 in 1918 to $5,008.13 in 1919, altering the overall balance. The Fish and Game Fund serves as trustee to defray bureau costs and activities.

State Reports Show Rising Licenses and Fines

The department cites 1918 and 1919 data to demonstrate efficiency and earnings. Alien fishing licenses total 51,879 and alien trappers licenses 78,607. Fines collected rose from 89 resulting in 3,025.05 to 177 totaling 5,590.00 by December 24.

Over 800 people attended amid severe weather. 825 sales at four thousand two hundred twenty one dollars and forty five cents, averaging 844.29 dollars per hour. Horses sold for 300 dollars, cows 65, hay per ton unknown. J J Torbert, recently relocated from California, cited alfalfa yields and land near Imperial Valley at 25 dollars per acre. The First National Bank clerked the sale.

Arnold Brothers Buy Eighty Acres North of Town

Arnold Brothers purchase the John P Harriman 80 acre tract lying two miles north of the city at 100 per acre. The new tract adjoins their home place and gives them 320 acres in one body. Improvements are modest but land is described as first rate prairie soil.

Youngman jumps to death from Lawyer's Canyon Bridge

Shortly after a wedding in Grangeville, J H Brown leaped from a Camas Prairie train’s smoking car near Lawyer's Canyon Bridge and fell about 90 feet to rocks. He had given his bride Lenia Lovelace a wallet containing around $100 and declared he was leaving her as the train neared Craig's Junction.

Death on a Canyon Leap Ended Local Man’s Life

A Spokane Valley report describes Augustus Brown’s death after leaping from a train window into a canyon. The body was found near the creek bottom and awaits relatives’ instructions at Vollmer. Brown, 80, was well liked and formerly employed at Miller Hardware. His widow has returned to her parents.
