Will Ship Horses From Grangeville Area to Toppenish
Contractor A. Bicknell will ship two carloads of work horses to Toppenish Washington where they will be fed for the balance of winter. Weather halted highway work on the Grangville Whitebird lick of the North and South highway and high feed prices make wintering on site unprofitable. About twenty head are kept for use when conditions warm.

Brown made a handsome stake mining in the Florence district and enjoys it at Pasadena California. She plans to be away until spring.

Idaho highway officials seek 50 percent federal share on public lands roads
W J Hall Idaho commissioner of public works and Engineer Gillette of New Mexico led a motion at the American Association of State Highway Officials meeting in Louisville to press Congress for a new basis of federal aid. The plan would let western public land states receive 50 percent federal aid for roads on public lands instead of current levels, with Idaho potentially covering 31 percent of a road’s cost. A second resolution aims to speed through main highways before branch roads, require adjacent routes to connect, and create a through transcontinental system. Colonel D P Olson of Idaho backed separate post road funds and higher forest road standards, while eastern opposition blocked a shift to area-based federal aid rather than population and mileage.
