Two Drown in Clearwater River Near Grangeville

Dick Burp age 23 and Elbert Martin age 28 drowned while swimming in the Clearwater near the Grangeville electric plant. Their bodies were recovered by five o’clock. services conducted at Mt Idaho with Rev Callison assisting. Both families from nearby ranches and known as local residents. Richart Karp and Elbert Martins families mourn their losses.

Tragic Farm Accident And Death Reported In Local Notices

A farm machinery mishap injures Joe Nels severely with extensive facial burns while oiling a separator on the Coram place north of town. The machine burned, grain losses occurred, and Nels sought town medical aid as the crew attempted to salvage the operation. Also noted is the sudden death of Minnie Ashby at her home four miles beyond Freedom at age 36, with funeral arrangements mentioned. A brief Labor Day notice follows.

Annual Flower Show Beautifies Grangeville On Civic Club Efforts

Last Saturday the Civic club staged a successful annual flower show at the Lingo Furniture Exchange. Most displays featured sweet peas with other flowers also shown. Top awards went to Mrs. E. S. Sweet for best sweet peas, while Mrs. John Coram won for best banquet and second in sweet peas. Mrs. Coram also earned first prize overall in the classification. Mrs. 8. Smith took the prize for largest collection of sweet peas. The Civic club promotes Grangeville beautification projects including parks and drinking fountains, and operates a ladies rest room. Funds from street sales of flowers benefited the Civic club and visitors patronized the event generously.

Sergeant Hilbourne Home After 60 Day Furlough

Sergeant Harry Hilbourne of Company BE arrived on last night’s train from Nogales Arizona on a sixty day furlough and expects discharge soon. He spoke briefly through a translator about weather and a 68 mile bike trip to Fort Wayne. No illness noted among troops. he appeared well and brown. Further reports from Fort Wayne expected.

Idaho to Cast Big Vote for Hughes

Idaho Republicans say Hughes will win the largest state vote in proportion to population. Evans and fellow organizers tour Idaho, forming Hughes clubs at county seats, with over 2000 miles logged and plans to fully organize every county before November.

Swidensky charged with grand larceny pled not guilty and trial slated for September 11.
