A sensational plan billed as one of the liveliest and dirtiest meets, set for Friday night at the Imperial hotel, promises an exclusive guest list and a fake program. The published schedule includes music by Basil Harris and acts by local firemen with hints of risqué acts, leaving questions about what will actually unfold.
A. F. Van Slyke of the Christian church traveled to Whitebird last Saturday to preach the funeral for Mrs Myra L Arrison who died August 46 after an appendectomy. She was born in Fort Scott Kansas and moved to this county in 1889 marrying D W Arton of Whitebird in June 1905. She was 16 when she became a Christian and spoke of no fear of death in her final hours. The large turnout and floral tributes reflected community regard. Undertaker Hancock served as funeral director.
M. J. Murray of Ferdinand, a major grain grower, traveled Wednesday toward the Scott ranch between Florence and the Salmon River to purchase sixteen head of mules. Charlie Scott, a longtime mule dealer in Florence, accompanied him and made the sale conditionally. Murray reports 11,000 sacks of barley and 5,000 sacks of wheat this year, totaling between 35 and 40 thousand bushels of grain.
A Grangeville group forms a local dramatic club named The Friars. Officers include W. E. Bunnell as president Ivor L. Higgs secretary and Ha Abrahamson treasurer. An advisory board comprises M. C. Prid and Miss Lamona Richmond along with others.
District Court in Grangeville opens with minor cases and two divorces. The new club’s bylaws seek to foster dramatic and musical talent and social welfare with members drawn from locals who performed in The Liar at the opera house. Eight jury cases will be tried this term as jurors are summoned. Frank Peck reports on New York politics and Tammany Hall amid a NY funding push to oppose Boss Murphy and Sal.
The Chris Keefer residence across from the Imperial Hotel was badly burned Sunday at 2:15 am in an unexplained blaze. Keefer was renovating inside and had rented to a new occupant. the fire’s origin remains a mystery though the property was insured.
Camas social club No. 2 and club No. 1 held a joint meeting at the Odd Fellows hall in Fenn on August 21. Cream cake and coffee were served by both clubs. About fifty-five attendees included Mrs. Balzer, Miss Clara and Dora Knorr, Mrs. Bazzard, Mrs. Guvet, Miss Lyda, Miss Dora Hauger, Mise Ackerman, and Grandma Lyttle. Club No. 2 plans a meeting with Ber tha Flessing on September 4.
J M Griffith, Charlie Nall and P J Stoess, a Seattle mining expert, spent a week in the Buffalo Hump region last Friday. They inspected the Cracker Jack claim and Griffith property, bringing out several very fine ore specimens from the latter.
Mr and Mrs F A Tamblyn traveled to the 2600 acre Wren ranch near Fenn in the car of O B Styner and found a lively scene with a large force of men machines and teams harvesting the immense grain crop. The last of the cutting will be finished today.
J J Pulse president of the state pharmaceutical association was detained this morning before leaving for Coeur d Alene to attend the annual meeting. He carried an invitation from the Grangeville commercial club to host the next gathering in Grangeville. Orchestra leader Fuller plans to depart for Lewiston this week to lead music in a local amusement house.
Border Days officials announce a premier lineup headed by Dell and Bertha Blancett with Los Angeles Rodeo Association riders and a band of renowned bucking horses. The Grangeville show aims for record crowds with top contenders from Pendleton and California eagerly signed to compete and thrill spectators.
School opens next Monday under favorable conditions with a strong instructor corps and a united spirit. Pupils will move into a magnificent new building aiming for a successful term. Attendance expected high, books may change at cost to patrons, gymnasium slated to be ready early. J B Miller sold his Buick to Wallace Hill in Whitebird.
Mrs Ada Roa of Portland Bon here with her mother Mrs 8 EF Fore plans a home talent play for the Christian church. A Scrap of Paper comedy drama will be directed by Mrs Rose and staged Friday September 12 as The Friars postpone until after Horder Days.
While on a fishing and pleasure trip near the mountains south of town, Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Smith and family had a serious accident. The six-mile trek with a Geos bvery mule team driven by Lester Lanningham ended when a casting securing the wagon tongue broke. The wagon rammed a bank, throwing Mia Smith and the children over the footboard onto the heels of the off mule. The family escaped serious harm and were thankful for their quick escape.
U G Life of Salt Lake City district superintendent for Western Union telegraph says construction will begin once crew is assembled. A line from Lewiston to Grangeville will serve towns on the Camas Prairie railroad, with five miles of line built daily. Grangeville will gain a local office, other offices along the route to be at railroad stations. Total cost projected at 6000 to 7000 dollars. An uptown office is to be housed in a room at the Imperial Hotel on Malm Street.
W C Schaeter from Independence Wisconsin toured Grangeville and Camas country, selected Cranehville as a home base and possible investment hub. He joins Grangeville Savings and Trust as director and plans heavy regional investments. The Schaefer family will move into the Wolfe property in southwest city quarters.
Sheriff Elmers, famed for his record as a criminal corralist, purchased a new Ford automobile this week. The upgrade promises quicker response times for deputies in Idaho and surrounding county areas as they pursue offenders and enforce the law.
