Devastating Storm Hits Clearwater County Farmlands

A severe postwar storm swept across a 1500 acre strip between Little Canyon and the Clearwater River, causing estimated losses of 40 to 50 thousand dollars. It destroyed about 1500 acres of grain, damaged 10 to 60 percent of nearby crops, and left fields, shocks, and grain with extensive root-up and ground cover destruction. The seven minute downpour darkened the area as hailstones varied from cherry to hen egg size and shredded wheat and barley, with grain in shocks beaten or threshed down and vast spoilage in the wake.

Ferdinand and Steunenberg Merge for Shipments Harmony

In a measure driven by business leaders and residents of Ferdinand, the merger aims to simplify shipping methods without forcing Steunenberg townsite residents to abandon their community. Ferdinand, established before the railroad, now acts as the district’s commercial hub amid a rich agricultural area. Steunenberg, founded with Fenn Vollmer and Reubens, once rivaled nearby towns, yet peace proposals have faded against a history of conflict, likely to continue until a unified community forms.
