May win Chicago trip to livestock show for Idaho pig club

Celebrated New Orleans Jazz Band at Days of ’49 event
The New Orleans Jazz Band visits Grangeville for a two night engagement starting with a Dreamland Hall concert on April 29 and a Days of ’49 show on the following Thursday April 20. Featuring Sam McDaniel C Jackson Hall Williams and Cy Jackson the troupe known for New Orleans styles will perform selections and dances with Bring Back Those Wonderful Days among the pieces. The group recently played in Thermopolis Wyoming and Spokane at the Silver Grill before arriving in Grangeville for one concert and a dance night.

At the last meeting K of P lodge elected E. O. Abramson and Harold Harria as delegates to the Grand Lodge session in Kellogg Idaho on June 16. A. Wright and M. B. Geary were chosen as alternates. A May membership drive was scheduled with two teams the Reds led by Harold Harris and Blues led by Howard Wetherbee. The losing team must banquet the winners and new members. Bond Issue Enables Street Improvements in Grangeville
Grangeville voters approved a 25000 bond last Tuesday for paving street intersections from the Imperial Hotel corner to Idaho Avenue, a concrete culvert on Main between Hall and State, and linking streets to the depot and North South highway. About 159 ballots favored with 12 opposed. turnout around 250 eligible voters. An improvement district was formed from Meadow Street to Thale avenue with no protests. Dubulitte paving preferred for intersections and 16 foot macadam for depot and highway from Tolaho avenue.

Gideon Unzicker Dead Known Farmer of Joseph Plains
Gideon Nunzicker a well known citizen of Joseph Plains died at his home on Tuesday April 13 at age 2 years three months. Born Hickory county Missouri January 13 1858 he married Ella Wilhelm in Emporia Kansas. They moved to Westlake in 1896 and to Joseph in 1910 to farm and raise cattle. The family moved to Eva Canfield place about three years ago and he died after a week with the flu. Surviving are his widow and six children, all but one at his bedside.

Returned from California By Keven Evans Board Member
Keven Evans, member of the state board of education, returned home last Saturday after wintering with relatives in lower California. He visited Boise en route and attended a major meeting of the state board, then stopped at Lewiston to review normal school matters. He suffered influenza in California and was very ill, now regaining his health.
