New charter board member opposes sheriff appointment

Sam H. Herron Jr. named to the County Charter Review Board says he is not in favor of appointing an sheriff. He has filed papers and awaits his commission. Herron is a Venice real estate broker and a candidate for the Precinct 21 Democrat Executive Committee in tomorrow's primary. He opposes Charter Amendments 2 3 4 but supports Amendment 5 home rule for municipalities and declines comment on a water management tax amendment.

Precinct 21 voters and election workers are barred from using the Venice Nokomis Presbyterian Church lot tomorrow. Deputy Willmott says use the Rialto entrance, midway between the shopping center and Firenze Avenue, marked with flags. Church business only at the former lot.
