Sarasota County adopts staffing formula raising class sizes

The Sarasota County School Board approved a new staffing formula last Thursday that increases teacher and support unit divisors by a half, aiming to cut staff by about ten and a half positions. The plan, drafted after principals and the superintendent met, keeps Pillot's goal but reduces proposed cuts and adds a January deadline for cost data to decide course removals.

Bands Needed for Flying Feet at Bicentennial Parade

Bands of rock Dixieland polka and square dancing are sought to perform during the area Bicentennial celebration. Volunteers receive a certificate of appreciation from the steering committee. Venice Area Bicentennial Committee lines up a family friendly July 4 program beginning at 12 30 p m with Independence Services at the Downtown Memorial Area a veterans march to the beach side memorial grounds an afternoon of games prizes and a barbecue sponsored by local groups including Venice Nokomis Bank and Trust the American Legion and VFW plus volunteers.
