Venice Youths Head to Europe for Two Month Tour

Three Venice VHS graduates now college students embark on a two month auto tour of Europe. Jerry Meadows Gordon Struble and Martin Satava leave New York Kennedy Airport for Paris then train to Heidelberg. They plan to visit Holland Belgium France Germany Denmark Sweden Norway Finland Greece Spain Turkey Italy and Switzerland. They speak several languages and will use student IDs for reduced meals and lodging. They hope to study customs and living habits and act as Good Will Ambassadors for Venice Kiwanis Club and Key Club International banners will accompany them.

Venice industrialists oppose site for low rent housing plan

The Venice Area Industrial Association protested the citys proposed federal low rent housing project, arguing the industrial site risks fire, dust, noise, and traffic dangers. Mystery light over Southwestern sky reported by Tyrrells

Mr and Mrs Bradley Tyrrell III of East Gate reported a pulsating white light in the Southwestern sky last Tuesday night. Mrs Tyrrell said the light flashed about 12 times at one second intervals, appeared as large as Venus, and remained stationary about 40 degrees above the horizon before fading.

Outing Promises Pageant Kickoff At Sarasota Free Picnic

The second annual All-Sarasota picnic opens Miss Florida Pageant week with 36 contestants, including Susan McCracken of Venice. Tickets are 1.50 for adults and 0.75 for children, with a motorcade, prizes for fathers, and appearances by mayors and city officials.

A House Judiciary Committee killed a bill to abolish the West Coast Inland Navigation District. Rep. Granville Crabtree Jr. charged overspending and urged dissolution after witnesses for WCIND opposed the measure. Venice Summer Enrichment Program Slated

The Venice area Summer Enrichment Program runs June 19 to July 28 at Venice Elementary School directed by Bill Pinder. Registration is $3 per student, $3 extra for the swim portion, with pre-registration June 15–16. Sessions run 8 am to 2 pm, Monday through Friday.

Waterway Celebration Dates Set By Venice Chamber

Venice Area Chamber of Commerce directors set tentative dates March 8 and 24 for the 1968 Waterway Celebration to boost turnout with Kentucky Military Institute participation. The group planned budgeting, city funding, a name the celebration contest with a $25 prize, and named Earle L. Kilton to head the effort with a professional coordinator. The first Inland Waterway Celebration was deemed a success and well received.

Sarasota County approves bond resolutions for school construction

Sarasota County School Board Attorney Richard Cooney was authorized to prepare resolutions for a $10.9 million bond issue to finance proposed school construction.
