Obedient plant sprouts inside county office through brick wall
A hardy plant at the South County Courthouse Annex grew through eight inches of brick and a caulk gap to live inside the county clerk's office near the air conditioner. Beachfront land swap to be discussed by Venice planning panel

State money possible for emergency vehicle purchase
The South County Ambulance Service may receive state funds later this month to buy a third emergency vehicle as federal HEW money could also arrive. District supervisor John Katz notes a June 17 deadline for further information while discussions with County Administrator Dale Maroney continue on using operating funds. If funded, the third ambulance could be ready by October and stationed at the district HQ and Venice Hospital.

Lund's Visible Sound Alphabet Promises Easier Reading
Retired RCA sales manager Sydney George Lund, age 62, devised a new Visible Sound Alphabet or VSA that assigns a distinct symbol to each sound. It preserves most consonants except Q and adds 21 new vowels plus an extra N, with symbols designed to render words shorter and unambiguous.

Beach report to Sarasota Commission on Caspersen study
