U S 41 Repaving To Pause By 4 P M In Sarasota

FDOT announced resurfacing of U S 41 between the Venice By-pass and Stickney Point Road will stop daily by 4 p.m. to relieve rush hour congestion. Work began last Tuesday causing slowdowns and multi mile backups. The $588 758 project faces longer completion due to early quitting time and skid hazard concerns. The Venice By-pass paving planned around May with contract award at end of February.

Council Deliberates Zoning Definitions Amid Family Clause Debate

The city council resumes a page by page review of a proposed zoning code focusing on 146 terms. The debate centers on “family” and “home occupation” definitions and their limits on group size and living arrangements.

Venice considers draft charter in final council review

The Venice Charter Review Board presents the first draft to the city council in a 7:30 p.m. workshop at City Hall. If no major storm develops, an early April referendum is planned after February public hearings. The charter creates a seven member council with a voting mayor and three year terms.
