An engineering study finds at least ten major deviations from original specs in the reverse osmosis raw water main. The council orders contractor Harry Pepper to follow recommendations, including an as built survey, re laying sections, rerouting conduit, and a full pressure test.
Venice officials grant a second reprieve for residents of the city owned Bullpen, delaying eviction to February 1 while demolition is planned after that date. Four to nine tenants are linked to the building, which needs about $8,000 in repairs to meet codes.
Venice Police Chief Robert Ferry visited Grove Terrace after rumors of a planned protest. He told tenants nothing like a riot would occur and said he would be available if a protest began. Housing Authority officials coordinated the outreach amid unsettled views from residents.
City Administrator Dale Rieth pressed the FAA to stop ongoing fault finding as Venice seeks progressive airport development. FAA officials Riesert and Shepardson said inspections are routine and urged Venice to address warnings from last August, warning that compliance is required.
The Venice Housing Authority head Rev. James Huffaker resigned immediately after weeks of dispute over Grove Terrace rent increases. He cited ministerial duties and offered no comment on a planned protest by black residents at Venice Nokomis Presbyterian Church, sending his letter to Mayor Harry Case and WHA members.
Mrs. Curington said residents are awaiting legal counsel before acting, noting several tenants overdue on pre January rent received eviction notices last Tuesday. She added that no one is leaving unless threatened and stressed a firm stance from the tenants.

A nursery class enables students to gain child care experience while caring for about 20 preschoolers daily. The Food Occupations class trains students in menu planning, food prep, and meal service with affordable community lunches.
