Rare Mammoth Relic Unearthed by Local Collector
Albert I. Barney of 343 Grobe Street reveals a Woolly Mammoth leg bone upper jaw teeth and lower jaw teeth found in Sarasota County. The teeth weigh 42 and 63 pounds respectively. He also lists Equus Horse Teeth Saber-Toothed Cat teeth Mastodon jaw fossils and petrified ivory. His shell collection includes Sand Dollar and Vasum horridum. Barney gifts shell art to veterans and is a former New England marathon racer.

Englewood Rotary Club announced the purchase of five acres from the Blackburn family along the Myakka River east of Venice. Schools Get Reprimand For Fielding Uncertified Teachers
The Southern Association of Secondary Schools charged Lemon Bay Junior High in Englewood for teachers teaching outside their fields and placed the school in warn ing status. Supervising Principal Willard Cheatham attended the Dallas meeting, and officials said deficiencies could be corrected by certifying teachers before the next association session. Charlotte Junior High in Punta Gorda was also cited for similar lack of proper certification.

Venice Housing Authority Advances 50 Unit Low Rent Project
William P. Toole announced that the Venice Housing Authority will finalize the site purchase for a 50 unit low rent project in the week of January 15.
