Venice leaders move toward a May referendum pending final charter wording. City Clerk Steve Albee said the council completed reviews of public input and plans to refine the charter to shift finance director oversight from city manager to the council. Council members debated Sarasota’s provisions and how changes affect budgets and checks on power. The council meets again to set election timing for two new charter posts, possibly July or August.
