Escaped Indian Is Captured Near Lander Returns to Pen
Joe Baker an escaped Indian from a convict road builders camp on the Dukeville Afton road in Salt Canyon was captured at Lander last week and sent back to the Rawlins state penitentiary. He was serving two to nine years for assault on his brother in law and his relative helped arrest him. Baker described a hard journey over mountains subsisting on roots and scant food. He is a half breed son of Captain Baker, noted frontier scout in early Wyoming history.
