Cattle Market Mixed as Northern Wyoming Herds Sold

Cattle and sheep sales edged higher with 6700 cattle and 7500 sheep in on Monday. Northern Wyoming cattle drew 5.25, 5.15 and 5 cents, while Mulholland cattle from Moorcroft brought 4.15 on 1252 pounds. Idaho lambs ruled 6 to 6.75, and Oregon wethers 5.15 as Tuesday receipts reached 6500. Fat sheep remained strong though lambs softened. buyers urged prompt shipment due to car scarcity.

Gemmell Plans Winter Stay Near Murfreesboro Tennessee

David Gemmell visited the city on Monday and, while not certain on moving, intends to spend the coming winter in Tennessee to test life there. He will travel to a point about thirty miles south of Murfreesboro to evaluate the area. Johnson county residents hope the move proves too difficult.

Chairman John C. Hamim calls a Wyoming Democratic electors convention to meet in Cheyenne on September 13 at 4 00 pm. Burlington Surveyors Arrive Likely Line Preparations

A large Burlington survey crew has been stationed north and east of the city for a week. They are noncommunicative and delayed by transport for camp equipment from Worland. The Railroad Age notes Mr Hill plans an eastward line from here to Spearfish and Aberdeen, suggesting the surveyors are preliminaries for next year’s construction.

Antelope Decline Prompting Yearlong Closed Season

State Game Warden D C Nowlin advises Brooks that antelope in Wyoming are rapidly diminishing and urges a yearlong closed season be established by the next legislature, making killing antelope at any time a crime.

Sheepmen Protest Over Forest Grazing Policy and Damages

The Big Horn County Wool Growers Association plans a petition to National Secretary S. Walker of Cheyenne seeking an end to perceived favoritism in forest reserve grazing permits and range mismanagement within the Yellowstone Forest Reserve. They also seek nearly $4,000 in damages for loss of about 1,500 sheep after following trails laid by a forestry official amid poison weed exposure. A range classification commission is to be proposed with Pinchot and a governor-appointed Wyoming member, plus a Colorado or Montana resident.

The August sale by Geo. L. Goulding & Co. runs only mornings for shipping prep. John Daly led with five geldings at 125 per head while John Carter sold a car of yearlings at 42 each. Other items included 50 Cates & Boyle head cattle at 81 to 77, Mull car load at 31, Grant car load at 50 50, yearlings 21 to 40, year-olds 380 to 360. The sale promises to be Gillette’s most successful yet amid strong demand from buyers.
