Senator McCarthy accused Secretary of State Acheson of betraying the United States in Asia during a May 15 speech in Atlantic City. Evansville Indiana May 15 A Mother's Day family outing on the Ohio River ends in tragedy as four children aged 5 to 19 drown after the snopboard motorboat capsizes two miles south of Evansville. Seven children were in the boat. an uncle rescued two and another child swam to shore.
Baltimore report describes a California scientist’s work on a hay derived substance named subtilin that destroyed influenza A virus and Newcastle disease viruses in developing chick embryos. The findings mark a potential stride toward a drug treatment for influenza and related poultry disease.
London reports Britain France and America press to sustain troops in Germany to deter Soviet aggression. The three Atlantic pact nations meet to balance defense spending with economic recovery, while military chiefs seek more forces.
