Woman of the Week: Mrs McCarter’s Service Record

The Gazette profiles Mrs McCarter born in Cleveland County who joined Gastonia Women’s Club and Music Club. She attended Vermont High School and Meredith College then led school and college clubs. She taught four years in Kings Mountain Gastonia and Cramerton before substitute teaching in Gastonia. Her husband is a World War veteran and their daughter is Actile Cain. Mrs McCarter led the American Legion Auxiliary in 1938.

She chaired Victory School PTA efforts, led campaigns for March of Dimes and Community Concerts, served in Scout activities, hosted city events, and held leadership roles in church groups and missions.
