Four Lane Project On 321 To Begin Next Week
The State Highway Department will widen and repave U S Highway 321 south of Gastonia from the city limits to Ridge Mill, a 2 1/2 to 3 mile stretch. The project, approved after a Raleigh conference, will use state labor and aims to ease a southern bottleneck. County Commissioner W J Garrison championed the plan and announced it will start next week.

Chester Arthur Crosby 46 of 19 Boundary Street North Belmont died suddenly at 10 03 am at home. Survived by wife Ruth Ballard Crosby, a son Arthur Crosby of Charlotte, four daughters Juanita Queen Helen Hawes Betty Mc Knight Christine Reese all of North Belmont, stepson Jimmy Porter in Japan, two brothers Johnny Crosby and Richard Crosby, three sisters Mary Barnhart Ella Crosby Ruth Clayton, and 13 grandchildren. Funeral Thursday at 3 pm Centerview Baptist Church with burial at Gaston Memorial Park. Body to be moved from Mt Holly Funeral Home Wednesday at 4 pm and lie in state one hour prior to services.

Poker Bandits Sentenced To Five To Fifteen Years In Prison
Four Kannapolis men linked to a Thanksgiving Eye poker game holdup pleaded no contest to armed robbery counts in Davidson County court. Judge Frank Armstrong sentenced them to 5 to 15 years, with about 1430 dollars to the county fund and suspended portions. Victims reported losses of around 4000 dollars, police recovered checks, and officials described the masked holdup as ending when suspects collected cash and checks in a pillow case.

Ransom Convicted In Gastonia DUI Case
Bobby Ransom, 25, of Posten Circle, was convicted in Gastonia Municipal Court on a DUI charge. Arrested March 28 on North Modena Street by City Officers Frank Childers and Harry Fowler, he received a suspended four month sentence, a $100 fine, and court costs.
