Linwood College reports a social week with Misses Buchannan Abernathy Hood and Irwin visiting Gastonia. An apron party hosted by Miss Jennye Niell entertained Linwood girls. Return of former pupil Miss Jennye Smith is planned. Visits include Albert Littlejohn and Miss Marie Littlejohn. Miss Ona Spilman and Miss Ethel Spilman share time in Gaffney. Adelphian Literary Society prepares for a March 25 celebration.

Marietta man hanged for daughter's murder
John Bullard was hanged in Marietta Georgia for the murder of his 17 year old daughter last September. He suffered from consumption and it was uncertain if he would die before the execution. Weak from the disease he was supported on the scaffold and, with his dying breath, claimed the daughter's death was an accident.

Mrs S S Withers widow of John Withers died Friday at 5 pm after a brief pneumonia illness. A sister of Dr W H Hoffman she lived with her nephew Gus Moore on the Dallas Stanley road. Funeral at Christ Lutheran church Stanley with interment in Stanley Cemetery.

Power Line Incident At Monarch Cotton Mill
Sunday morning the current was diverted to the power house at Monarch Cotton Mill Dallas via Southern Power Company line through Clover and Gastonia. Frank L. Moser, inspector in the companys construction department, was on site to oversee proper operation.

Family of J. O. King Drowns Returning to Panama
Intelligence from Mocksville and Long Creek township reports the drowning of the entire King family on February 11 while returning to the Panama canal where J. O. King has supervised construction work. King had left his family in Mocksville in 1905 and planned to settle at the canal. The sinking vessel carried his wife and several children to a watery grave.

Miss Carrie Wray of Shelby died at Haw River Saturday evening after a several week illness. Funeral and burial were held in Shelby after accompanying relatives. City schools closed in respect to her memory. she previously taught first grade in Shelby and was highly regarded locally.

After one to four inches of snow around Roanoke Virginia last Thursday, freezing temperatures followed and a lengthy thunder storm struck. Distant thunder and vivid lightning shocked residents as hail and rain accompanied the storm, an occurrence not witnessed before in the area.
