Belmont pioneer Robert L Stowe 97 laid to rest
Funeral services were held for Robert Lee Stowe Sr. 97 Belmont textile pioneer and longtime Gaston County Board of Commissioners chairman. He died Saturday night at his home after a long illness. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.

The Liberty Bell has been relocated from the tower room to a main corridor in Independence Hall in Philadelphia for extensive rehabilitation of the bell tower. The last move from the tower occurred in December 1956 for roof repainting, with prior removal in 1917 for World War I bond drives.
