Harvard pathologist Dr Richard Pord testified that Mrs Abbie Borreto did not die from air injections, amid cross examination in the Sander murder trial. Dr Pord, a Harvard Medical School professor, supported Dr J Mann Bander’s claim of irrational behavior at the time of the injections. Autopsy details were presented by Dr Fond, who testified the cause of death was not due to air injection. The trial entered its 13th day with motions expected and a verdict likely after the all male jury deliberations.
Gastonia and Dallas figure among North and South Carolina communities listed by Charlotte firm to tap the Transcontinental Natural Gas Line. Murrey Atkins announced a proposal to sell gas wholesale to distributors in 36 cities, with an estimated project cost of 7.33 million dollars. The plan seeks Federal Power Commission approval for construction of lateral lines and redistribution facilities through the Transcontinental line now under buildout. The filing names Anderson, Greenwood, Greenville, Spartanburg, Gatley, Rock Hill, Chester in SC and Hendersonville, Asheville, Gastonia, Dallas, Charlotte, Hickory, Newton, Concord, Kannapolis, Statesville, Salisbury, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Durham, Raleigh, and other NC towns.
Washington March report notes President Truman rejected a German surrender offer via Heinrich Himmler thirteen days before World War II ended. Admiral Leahy, aide to the president, said the offer would have included all German forces on the Western Front. Leahy recounts in I Was There serially in The Saturday Evening Post.
The Farmers Union advocates a 1950 51 program favoring a broader Brannan plan. It strengthens production payments, adds storage cooperatives for perishables, endorses free enterprise, and seeks expanded credit via Farmers Home Administration and Reconstruction Finance Corp to boost employment. The push reflects concern over falling farm prices and rural economic distress.
