In Charlotte area, the chief state District Court judge orders a $5,000 minimum bond for first degree burglary arson or second degree rape. The rule stays until the Mecklenburg Bar submits bail guidelines Judge William Abernathy requested. Thief with humor returns stolen car near spot of theft
Police report a Bessemer City man, George S. Hoffman, on jury duty February 2h, parked in City Parking Lot No. 6 on W Franklin Blvd. The thief returned the car Thursday to the same area. Separately, a cement block shattered a Sears Roebuck window at 700 W Franklin Blvd. Several televisions were reported stolen. Damage to a Watson Insurance sign at 2451 Second Ave was about $500.

State to appeal drug antitrust suit dismissal
North Carolina will appeal the dismissal of its multi million dollar antitrust lawsuit against five drug companies. Deputy Attorney General Reney said a loss on appeal would leave the state with nothing and the case likely proceeds to the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals next week.
